Senior foreign journalists applauded Hangzhou’s elderly care services when they paid a visit to a local community on Sept. 25, as part of a media workshop for the Belt and Road News Network (BRNN).

The elderly care center, located in Jianggan district of the city, keeps elderly people active by arranging rich cultural activities for them including learning paper cutting, calligraphy, and musical instruments.

Graciela Vallarino, General Manager of Uruguay’s newspaper Multimedio La República, learned paper cutting under the guidance of a staff worker. She said that paper cutting could help elderly people stay more focused and keep their brain active.

Andrés Flores, a journalist from Argentina’s A24 TV, said that the model of letting senior people be taken care of in their own community, and through creatively hosting such a variety of cultural activities, is worth learning.

The care center has a medical consulting room that is equipped with machines to test blood pressure, blood sugar levels, and heart health conditions of the senior people.

Besides that, the community has built an online medical platform which both monitor sthe health conditions of senior people on a real-time basis and provides tailored health guidance for them.

“I learned that doctors could track the health status of elderly people through the online platform. I think they are doing an amazing job and I want to be here when I grow old,” said Alejandro Garza, Sub-director of International News of Notimex in Mexico.
