NAIROBI, June 23 (Xinhua) -- A seminar promoting the ninth China International Import Expo (CIIE), scheduled to open in Shanghai on Nov. 5, was held in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi on Tuesday, highlighting opportunities for Kenyan businesses to access the Chinese market and expand exports to China.

The event, themed "Sharing the Vast Chinese Market, Exporting to China," brought together Chinese and Kenyan officials, diplomats, and business leaders to discuss ways of deepening trade cooperation and boosting Kenya's presence in one of the world's largest consumer markets.

Erick Rutto, president of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), noted that Kenya's participation in the CIIE offers access to one of the world's most influential trading platforms.

Rutto said Kenya will send a delegation of exhibitors to showcase a range of high-value agricultural and natural products, including avocados, macadamia nuts, tea, coffee, sesame, and selected horticultural products.

He added that the KNCCI is leveraging China's zero-tariff policy, which took effect on May 1, to increase both the volume and diversity of Kenyan products in the Asian country.

Zhou Zhencheng, minister counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Kenya, said bilateral trade between China and Kenya continues to thrive, driven by strong policy support and mutually beneficial cooperation.

Zhou highlighted that the CIIE is the world's first national-level exposition dedicated exclusively to imports, serving as a major platform for opening China's vast market to global businesses, showcasing innovative products, and sharing development opportunities.

He added that the event will enhance Kenya's visibility in China and globally, creating new opportunities for Kenyan firms seeking to expand into the Chinese market.
