At Snow Town in Mudanjiang, northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, snow falls for seven months a year. What's that like?
In the past, snow was a burden on the local people. It sealed the mountains, cut off roads, and brought work to a halt as the cold set in. Now, however, it's something to look forward to. Homestays are fully booked, people line up for iron pot stew, and a tourist's "Wow, so beautiful!" makes the whole place buzz with warmth— even at around minus 20 degrees Celsius.
It's the same snow that once weighed down daily life, but now it draws crowds and clicks. The heavier the snow, the hotter the business.
