With a history spanning over 2,500 years, the Grand Canal served as a major transportation artery linking the north and south China in ancient times. For centuries, it facilitated grain shipment, supported the supply of goods to the capital and connecting Beijing with regions far away.

The Grand Canal was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2014. It carried far more than cargo. Along its waterways, people, ideas, customs and traditions traveled between regions, fostering cultural exchange and leaving an enduring imprint on Chinese society.

Today, through immersive displays, innovative technologies and vivid historical recreations, the Grand Canal Museum of Beijing brings this rich heritage to life, allowing visitors to experience the stories and cultural legacy of this remarkable waterway in new ways.

More than a feat of engineering, the Grand Canal is a living testament to China's history of connectivity, exchange and shared cultural heritage.
