Since the beginning of the new year, bald cypresses across Xiamen Island in Xiamen, southeast China's Fujian Province, and its surrounding areas have quietly shed their green foliage and donned brilliant new colors.
In recent days, these striking trees have attracted large numbers of residents and tourists.
At locations such as Nanhu Park on Xiamen Island, clusters of bald cypresses draw visitors with their crowns in shades of green, yellow, orange and red.
Meanwhile, at Maluanwan Shuangxi Wetland Park, rows of cypresses stand gracefully by the water, their red foliage contrasting with the green surface and resembling a palette spilled across the land.
Under the warm midday sun, visitors relax, take photos and admire the scenic winter views.
"Bald cypresses in Xiamen mostly grow near water," said a staff member from the Xiamen municipal landscaping bureau. "In autumn and winter, the leaves turn from green to yellow, then to red, and finally to a rich bronze. The colors are vivid and warm. This is the peak viewing period for bald cypresses, which can last until around the Spring Festival."
