Coffee

Although coffee originated in Africa, it has taken root in China as well. After years of cultivation, Yunnan Province in southwest China has become the country's leading coffee producer.

According to the Yunnan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the province currently has approximately 1.2 million mu (about 80,000 hectares) of coffee plantations, producing roughly 140,000 tonnes annually, more than 98 percent of China's total coffee output.

Data from Kunming Customs shows that in 2024, Yunnan exported 32,500 tonnes of coffee, a year-on-year increase of 358 percent. Major export destinations included Germany, the Netherlands, the United States, and Vietnam.
